Bitter Ridge Wind Farm
130 MW | Jay County, Indiana | COD: September 2020
About Bitter Ridge:
Bitter Ridge is a 130 MW wind project in Jay County, Indiana that produces enough clean energy to power the equivalent of 49,000 homes’ annual energy usage. The project will continue to support the local community in Indiana through the generation of annual tax revenue. 80 percent of Bitter Ridge’s electricity is contracted to Exelon through a Power Purchase Agreement.
The project began construction around August 2019, with a final COD of September 30, 2020. Scout manages the operation and maintenance of the project and provides all commercial oversight for the project.
Community Impacts:
Flexible Economic Development
Scout worked with Jay County to develop a flexible economic development program, allowing the county to allocate their tax revenue from the wind project more freely in its first three years of operation. Bitter Ridge will provide more than 16 million dollars in tax revenue over the project’s lifetime to Jay County, Indiana, with over half going directly to Jay County schools.
Safety Wins:
The construction process of the project accompanied the emergence of COVID-19 in early 2020. Scout not only met most of our project schedule but completed the project safely without a single case of the virus contracted on-site. By developing and implementing diligent health and safety measures for all on-site personnel, Scout or otherwise, the project finished construction safely, on time, and with little disruption amid a global pandemic.
