Markum Solar Farm

161 MWac | McLennan and Bosque Counties, Texas | COD: October 2024

About Markum:

Markum Solar is a 161 MWac solar facility in McLennan and Bosque counties in Texas that produces enough clean energy to power the equivalent of 75,000 Texas homes’ annual energy usage and will continue to support the local community in Texas through significant annual tax contributions. 100 percent of Markum’s energy is contracted to Colgate Palmolive through a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement.

Community Impacts:

Giving Back

Markum will put approximately 16 million dollars back into McLennan and Bosque counties over the project’s 35-year lifespan.

A Tale of Two Counties

Markum rests on the county line between McLennan and Bosque counties, requiring both counties to be equally involved in the development of the project. Both county judges, engineering departments, 911 dispatchers, and other integral community-based support for the project have been significantly involved in its development.

Farming Cattle to Farming Electrons

The principal landowners of the project, the Linn family, leased their land for the development of the project on the grass
pastures they used for their award-winning beef.

Continuing Legacy

In the spirit of continuing their agricultural legacy, the Linn family started a new business, Lonestar Lambscaping, which now works with Scout to use sheep as a way to sustainably manage Markum’s vegetation by letting them graze the site.
