Senior Director, Origination

Position Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Director of Origination  will be responsible for leading the commercial power origination efforts for the organization. The successful candidate will have extensive previous experience leading power origination efforts and leading teams in this function. Candidate must have significant relationships and contacts across geographies, power markets and customer segments in the US, and a familiarity with renewable energy commercial practices and evolving policies. A driven leader who  possesses deep power markets expertise, and has successfully executed wind energy off-take agreements and PPAs is desired.

Specific experience originating, pricing, structuring and analyzing physical and financial PPAs is required. Experience working in CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, and WECC and bilateral markets is preferred. Knowledge and contacts across market segments including IOUs, IPPs, Coops, Munis, Public Power, Government and growing Commercial and Industrial segments (including Data Centers) is highly preferable.

The candidate is expected to be highly motivated and a high performing leader in the organization who is capable, and willing, to manage and develop other individuals to enable the team to excel in identifying, communicating and delivering value for utility scale wind customers across a wide spectrum of US markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering upon target volume, revenue and margin goals for off-take agreements
  • Negotiation of power contracts with counterparties
  • Explore creative deal structures to assist in differentiating product offering including physical and financial hedges, contracts for differences, and firming and shaping structures
  • Establish relationships with procurement, trading and origination desks at utilities, munis, coops, C&I off-takers, and marketers
  • RFP & Proposal Development – Identify RFP opportunities and originate bilateral PPA targets outside formal RFP processes
  • Develop C&I market and target offtakers for bi-lateral negotiations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong commercial skills and proven “closer”
  • Advanced knowledge of power markets, customers and segments in North America utility scale wind market (IOUs, coops, munis, Commercial & Industrial companies, IPPs, government agencies)
  • Fluency in concepts including: basis risk, power markets, hedging, losses, and congestion
  • Ability to build strong customer relationships across organization levels
  • Capable leader who can effectively manage others to high performance
  • Driven, hard-working individual with high standards for self and others
  • Resourceful and comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment

Experience & Education

  • Advanced degree preferred
  • 8-10+ years of experience in power origination and management roles
  • Experience with PPA transactions across multiple power markets, customers, and deal structure types
  • Knowledge of and experience in over-the-counter forward markets, physical markets, and/or futures markets
  • Experienced and effective manager

Senior Wind Energy Project Manager

Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager will oversee the development of multiple wind energy projects throughout the United States. This individual will report to the Director of Development. Scout’s scope of work involves site identification, wind resource assessment, landowner and community relations, permitting, environmental studies, interconnection, offtake and construction planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for development activities in early and mid-stage projects
  • Ensure timely development of projects and meeting all project milestones
  • Implementation of long-term company strategy and initiatives as they pertain to the development of wind projects
  • Represent Scout with customers, landowners, federal, state and local officials and other stakeholders
  • Drive complex negotiations and create solutions to project specific problems and challenges
  • Take lead role in obtaining local, state and/or federal permits
  • Manage consultants and external parties
  • Assist project budgeting and scheduling
  • Significant travel as needed

Qualifications

  • A BS or BA from an accredited college program
  • Considerable experience managing the development and strategic process for wind energy projects
  • Self-motivator with exceptional leadership and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detai
  • Establish organizational goals, objectives, and operating procedures in line with the overall business plans and objectives
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and to meet deadlines and complete time-sensitive duties

Financial Controller

Position Summary

The Controller will lead the activities of our accounting department across locations. Responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the accounting operations of the company, including systems and compliance.
  • Maintain accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports.
  • Manage treasury process.
  • Assist in annual budget process.
  • Facilitate annual audit and quarterly tax requirements, as necessary.
  • Direct performance initiatives and process improvements for the accounting department.
  • Execute various projects at the discretion of management.
  • File appropriate reporting obligations to federal, state, and local agencies.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. CPA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of key accounting principles including GAAP. IFRS is a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills with advanced level skills in Microsoft Excel and experience with an ERP system.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, rapidly evolving business environment.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
